Farmers’ Market Staff

Prepared Food + Retail Markets

We are looking for part-time staff members with consistent Saturday and/or Sunday availability to set up the farm’s meat, eggs, honey, & prepared food for farmers’ markets sales across the Chicago area. Our markets are in the Chicagoland area and access to this area is necessary. This position requires early mornings and strong customer service skills. In addition to selling our products, advocacy and education around local food systems is a big part of what we do here at Mint Creek Farm!

Work duties include:

  • Working one or more farmers’ markets per week in Chicago, which may include:
    • picking up van at our warehouse located in Humboldt Park
    • driving to/from markets
    • set up/tear down
    • selling products
    • food preparation
    • customer service

Requirements:

  • Experience with POS and using an iPad to make sales
  • Customer service skills while engaging with our customers
  • Ability to lift 40+ pounds
  • Experience working at farmers’ markets and/or culinary skills are also helpful
  • Provided training will allow you to speak about our farming practices and to educate our customers
  • Provided training will allow you to be able to recommend how to prepare a minimum of 1–2 meat cuts from each farm animal
  • Share knowledge with customers about our CSA program and events happening at the farm
  • Most importantly, you must care strongly about animals, ecology, and rethinking our food system

Work timing:

  • Ability to work 1 market per week required, more availability is welcomed
  • Depends on farmers’ market time and day, but usually an 8–10 hour day per market
    • An example shift may look like arrival to the warehouse for packing, driving to market, setting up, and finishing at
  • Seasonal work (May – November), occasional off-season markets available

Compensation:

  • $16.60/hr + tips
  • Staff CSA share (1 lb of meat + 1 doz eggs per week worked)
  • Meals at market provided
